Questmiles Book Club

I have always wanted to belong to a monthly book club.

You know, the kind that everybody reads the same book and then meets somewhere once per month to discuss what they liked and didn't like about it and how they agreed or disagreed with this or that and the thousand different things the author may have meant when he opened with the line, "It was a dark and stormy night..."  Yeah.  That kind of book club.

Finding time to read the book is not the problem.  But having a free evening to get ready, travel somewhere, spend a couple of hours discussing the book, chit-chatting with the other members while drinking a coke and eating cookies, then driving back home....well, THAT is next to impossible.

So...Questmiles Book Club will be our place to gather and discuss books.  I will post a review and you can respond with your thoughts and opinions.  We will also have a place where you can post any recommendations.  We will consider several genres: motivational, inspirational, instructional, thought-provoking, fictional (historical and Christian), etc.  I'm not into sci-fi, mysteries, or Westerns.

The only way this will work, however, is if you respond and get involved.  It's not going to be much fun to read the book, write the review, and nobody respond to it.  That's just work with no feedback.

So.  Are you interested or not?

We will start with the book, "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan.  Available through amazon.com and on Kindle.

  1. I have to tell you that I love to read but I have seasons in my life that I have more time than others. I don't think that I could read a book a week right now.
Right now I am reading Beth Moore so long insecurity. I have really enjoyed it.But it may take me another week or two before I will be done.

  2. Okay. Am ready to do this with you. I'll be purchasing the book on Amazon, and should be getting it within the next couple of weeks (since it has to come to the DR) How long does one have to read the book and participate? Maybe you can let me know what the next book is so I can have it on hand once we get started. Love you.

  7. I know that most are not able to read a book each week. I actually am not doing that, either...but I am AVERAGING a book per week. On slower weeks, I'll read two and busier weeks I don't read at all. (I don't like those weeks.)

So, I will post summaries (not necessarily written by me) and will try to make them as objective as possible without my opinion. I will offer my thoughts and opinions in the comments below.

If you get behind and cannot keep up, that's okay. The postings will be right here waiting for you when you get to them.

I will keep the list of books we are going to read next under the "All About Books" tab at the top of the blog. You can check that from time to time to see where we are going.

After some consideration, I have decided that the next book we will discuss after "Crazy Love" is "The Shack." It is Christian fiction--but very impacting. People either love it or hate it. It's controversial, but that is what makes good discussion, right? I will put the link here where you can purchase it.

If you have suggestions, please post them! They will definitely be considered.

I'm really looking forward to this!

  10. For those that live overseas and may find it difficult to order books from Amazon and have them sent to you: note that there is a free download called Kindle for PC. I downloaded it today and it works great on my laptop. I also use the Sony E-Reader.

  11. Oh, how exciting! Guys are most definitely allowed...encouraged, begged, beseeched.. :-) Bro. Poitras, we would welcome any suggestions and/or recommendations for revew from you, also.

Jessica mentioned to me on FB that the link included Crazy Love in Spanish as well.

I will try to indicate the next 3-4 books coming up so that overseas bloggers will have time to get them if they cannot get the free download.

Keep checking the "All About Books" link above to see when we add another book to the list.
